Title: Navigating ADHD Research at Curtin University: Empowering Neurodiversity in Higher Education
As I begin an exciting journey into ADHD research at Curtin University, the research team and I secured funding from Curtin and ethics approval pending, this research promises to shed light on the experiences of students with ADHD and the support systems available to them within the university. Spearheading this research is myself, a senior occupational therapist determined to find solutions that best support neurodivergent individuals in the university space.
At its core, this research seeks to understand how students at Curtin University currently navigate their ADHD while striving for academic success. By delving into the strategies they employ, whether it’s leveraging assistive technologies, honing personalised study routines, or tapping into university support services, we aim to uncover a tapestry of resilience and ingenuity.
But our exploration doesn’t stop there. We’re equally invested in understanding the university’s role in supporting students with ADHD. What resources are available, and how effective are they? Are there any gaps in the support ecosystem that need addressing? These are critical questions that demand attention if we are to create an inclusive and supportive academic environment.
Participating in this research isn’t just about contributing to academic discourse; it’s about amplifying the voices of neurodivergent individuals and advocating for their needs. By sharing their stories and experiences, participants have the power to shape future policies and initiatives, driving positive change within the university community.
As we await the ethical green light to commence our research, it’s essential to underscore the rigorous ethical considerations inherent in studies involving human participants. Our commitment to upholding participants’ rights, privacy, and well-being underscores every step of this journey.
Together, we embark on this journey with a shared vision: to empower neurodiversity in higher education. Through collaboration, empathy, and a relentless pursuit of solutions, we have the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of students with ADHD.
Stay tuned for updates on this research endeavour as we navigate the complex landscape of ADHD support at University. Together, we’re forging a path toward a more inclusive and supportive future for all.
